The
police in Ogun State have arrested a 23-year-old man, Olusuyi Ayomide,
for allegedly stealing two BlackBerry phones during church services in
two different churches.
Police Public Relations Officer for the
state command, Muyiwa Adejobi, said Ayomide, who lives in the Atapila
Camp area of Abeokuta, Odeda Local Government Area, stole the phones in
two of the Pentecostal churches on Sunday around 12.5pm.
The PPRO said, “The suspect went into
the churches one after
the other while the services were on and smartly
stole two BlackBerry phones belonging to the members of the
congregations of the churches.”
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of
Police, added that the culprit was later arrested by policemen attached
to Obantoko Police Station with the help of members of the churches.
“The suspect, who will be charged to
court immediately the command completes its investigation, has been
condemned by his parents who confirm him as a notorious thief and
recalcitrant,” the PPRO added.
Adejobi said the Commissioner of Police,
Ikemefuna Okoye, had urged the residents of the state to be more
conscious and protect their property from the hands of hoodlums who
paraded themselves as neighbours or friends.
He said, “The commissioner also advised
the public, particularly churches and other worship centres, to beef up
their internal security arrangement and carry the police around them
along.”
