Today marks the 10th anniversary of Britney Spears’ wedding to Kevin Federline.
This makes us feel really, really old. Who could forget those incredible velour tracksuits…
To celebrate the occasion, which at the time was one of the biggest celebrity weddings of the naughties, Britney’s wedding planner, Alyson Fox, has spoken to TIME about
her role in the occasion. Which, as you can probably imagine, didn’t run as smoothly as everyone had hoped.
For starters, the original plans had to be scrapped after the locations were uncovered so Alyson had just 10 days to plan a whole new wedding. And to keep it a secret, she held it at her own home.
Although Kevin and Britney divorced just two years later – she still holds the date dear.
The poor woman probably can’t erase the stress from her memory.
“I met Britney and her mom the next day and they all couldn’t be nicer, recalled Alyson.
“They came up with a list of 200 to 250 people, and we thought the Bacara would be great. We were designing the most beautiful but not over the top, elegant but shabby chic, gorgeous but fun event…
“It was a really fun experience. I have not one negative thing to say until we had to move the whole wedding.”
With the fear that thousands of people would turn up at the planned location, Alyson changed things up and got to work.
She added: “We planned it in 10 days or less. Monique Lhuillier was making all the gowns that were basically ready, all the vendors were in place for the big wedding — we just didn’t have a location. We limited the guest list to the two families and the wedding party, and then we talked to Britney and Kevin about doing a surprise wedding.
Not even Britney’s mum knew where the wedding would eventually be held.
Top secret indeed.
“They left the house in [velour tracksuits] but they were in tuxedos and gowns [during the ceremony], she explained.. Everybody made such a big deal about that, but that’s what Juicy did for every celebrity who got married.
“They’d send them the cute little tracksuits. I asked Britney and Kevin what they wanted printed on the back, and Britney said, “Maids! Maids will be cute!” And it was. It was cute! And he said “Pimps” which was adorable…”
We’d probably use the word memorable.
