Some environment experts have urged the
Federal Government to introduce car emission test to regulate heavy
emission of carbon monoxide by vehicles in the country.
They said that the call was necessary to
ensure that only cars with low carbon emission ply the roads, to
guarantee safety of lives.
They also raised concern over continued gas flaring in the country, adding that generators as well as industrial machines were contributing to gas emission and endangering lives in the country.
They said that gas flaring and the other activities that promote carbon emission were depleting the environment.
Mr Benson Attah, the Executive Director,
Community Emergency Response
Initiative (CERI), an NGO, urged the three tiers of government to
initiate regulatory policies that would regulate gas emission in the
country. They also raised concern over continued gas flaring in the country, adding that generators as well as industrial machines were contributing to gas emission and endangering lives in the country.
They said that gas flaring and the other activities that promote carbon emission were depleting the environment.
Mr Benson Attah, the Executive Director,
Attah blamed successive governments for undermining effects of gas emission to the environment.
He urged the present government to initiate programmes that would discourage gas flaring and promote awareness on the need to reduce emission in order to protect the environment.
“This is crucial in making people understand the impact of gas emission to their health and socio-economic well-being.
“If people, particularly in local communities would understand the ugly trend, it will assist them to become resilient to environmental hazards.
“People should be re-orientated to carry out activities that are environmentally friendly in order to protect the environment,’’ Attah said. (NAN)
