Arsenal have gone back to the top of the English Premier League table
after securing a hard fought 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain got a brace for Arsene Wenger's
team who were
made to work hard for the win, working their socks off to break down a
resolute Palace team.
Palace held their own, restraining the Gunners who enjoyed a greater
percentage of the ball, but couldn't breach the visitor's defence in the
first half.
Former Arsenal player Marouane Chamakh was tireless for his new
team, defending right from the top and even came close to scoring but a
heavy first touch cost him.
However,Arsenal's patience paid off after Oxlade-Chamberlain calmly
slotted in a pass from Santi Cazorla to open the scores just minutes
after the start of the second half.
Palace came close to equalising after Cameron Jerome's diving header was saved by Wojciech Szczesny.
Then Arsenal stretched their lead with Chamberlain and Olivier Giroud combining nicely for the second goal.
The win now moves Arsenal two points clear on the table, pending the
outcome of the game between Manchester City and Chelsea on Monday.
