Microsoft Nigeria targets youths for software development

Microsoft Nigeria is set to engage youths in the country in software development, Emmanuel Onyeje, the firm's Country Manager, announced on Thursday.
Describing the programme as an 'Open Door' initiative that would ensure that youths come up with innovative ideas for software solutions, Onyeje said the initiative would enhance the company’s interaction with its customers, partners and students.
“We are trying to help youths to use their skills to become productive and not for scamming, external fraud or hacking on people’s privacy.
“If you are programmer, whether you are in school or you are just leaving school, you can be self-employed by writing software applications,” Onyeje said.
He advised youths to use their skills legitimately to empower themselves in the global market place.
According to him, Microsoft has a programme called Dreams Pack which allowed students in tertiary institutions to develop their own software.
Onyeje said this would help in improving their software development skills in writing and gaining applications.
“A lot of students in Nigeria have been gaining access to the skills and more students will still have opportunities on it,” he said.
