CHAN 2014: Super Eagles defeat South Africa to qualify for quarter-finals

Nigeria vs South Africa CHAN 2014
Ejike Uzoenyi scored a fine brace, as Nigeria overcame hosts South Africa 3-1, in their last group game to qualify for the last eight of the competition.
The Eagles, who began the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Mali, began the match purposefully, with Uzoenyi especially giving the home defence all sorts of trouble.
And it was no surprise, that the dimunitive winger opened scoring in the 22nd, with a neat finish at the near post. Moeneeb Joseph brought down Fuad Salami, as he tried to make amends for terrible handling and the referee pointed to the spot. Ifeanyi Ede stepped up and converted the penalty.
South Africa’s hopes of qualifying from the group were effectively ended, when Uzoenyi combined neatly with Salami and curled in an exquisite effort. And although Bernard Parker also converted a penalty, it was too late for the hosts.
